Y_Labs Ventures / UX/UI Designer

Desktop Website Design

Role I worked with a team of designers to develop a E-learning platform.

Y-labs want to provide platforms, resources, guidance, and community for talented teenagers to see real-world challenges as social impact opportunities.

Problem

Online platforms are limited. Students need a more personalized experience when interacting with teachers. Y-labs want to develop a E-learning platform that acts as robust support and a well-rounded student experience that virtualizes interactions similar to a classroom environment. Y-labs have built out an initial wireframing of their new virtual classroom platform and have requested to re-validate user needs and iterate for a higher level of fidelity.

Goal

  • To create an E-learning platform that Virtually depicts a classroom environment.

  • To make the learning experience distraction-free and more engaging.

  • To provide an all-in-one hub for learning in one place.

Research

To better understand the student needs and pain points, we conducted user interviews.

User Interviews

Our primary focus on user Interviews is to gather information on students’ experience with E-learning platforms and their emotional connection.

  • What are their main concerns with E-learning?

  • Is there anything they wish they could do on the platform that is currently not possible?

  • Challenges they face while using the platform?

  • How effective has an E-learning platform been for them?

Competitive Analysis

I have worked on competitive analysis to learn the ins and outs of our competitors which helped me identify potential opportunities where we can out-perform them and stay atop of the industry trends.

User Stories

Through user interviews, we have uncovered students pain points, Needs, and Goals, which were the direct light for user stories

After creating the user stories, we have come up with the conclusion that students’ would benefit with

  1. Dashboard( having a glimpse to all of their Curriculum )

  2. Live Classroom(A must-have feature for E-Learning)

  3. Library( A one-stop hub for all their material)

  4. Programs(Curriculum for students enrolled in different programs)

  5. Community(To establish an emotional connection between students and teachers)

  6. Calendar(To foresee all their academic due dates )

  7. Student Profile ( A summary of their academics)

For each feature of the app, an ideation session will bring out the students’ possible functionalities.

LIBRARY

My role from here on was to focus on the feature Library solely.

Key Insights from Users

  • “I would like to have all of the resources in one place”

  • “Have to note down a question and later ask them for clarification with to and fro emails is a hassle”

  • “Would like to exactly pinpoint a video to ask the professor about her concerns”

Considering all these insights, I have prioritized my MVP for Library by picking the user Stories.

Workflow for Library

Users wanted to have access to all their resources in one place (Materials, Recorded sessions, Books, and Notes)

Sketches for Library

Users Goals included having a library where they can read and store all their material in one place. Therefore my sketches were mainly focused on providing a one-stop hub for students.

Recorded Sessions(Access to the everyday recorded session from teachers )

Books (Users are given access to all the books as in a physical library system)

Documents(Articles, videos from teachers and other students )

Saved Items(Favorite’s of their own and all their school notes )

Purchasing Books(can directly buy books for their class)

Recorded Sessions

Ability to snip a video to save or share with teachers increases the communication

Books

Books of all forms at one place

Users can listen to books on Y-labs Platform or download into their specific platform

Listening on Y-labs platform allows users to save notes or message their teachers at the same time .

Ample options for students to purchase their books

Documents

Students wanted to have all their material together.

Students’ material with highlighting options, notes, and messages to teachers.

Students can upload their own material to share with others on the Y_labs platform.

Saved Items

Students personal library (includes all their favorites)

Students can bring in their books to store them in one place .

All their notes are in one place.

User Testing

I wanted to deliver the results with more validation, so with the limited time, I conducted usability testing with one user and gathered the insights.

Major Insights from Testing

User was unclear of the category bookstore.

User preferred the document section to be categorized depending upon their subject instead of articles and videos.

Conclusion

Based on the interviews with participants and researchers, we have devised a definite pattern. Users were pleased with the platform’s direction and felt it would be helpful for them in E-learning.

Overall it was a challenging project with a concise time crunch, which helped me grow professionally and showcase myself as a UX designer who can excel in given conditions and work collaboratively with a team.
